The other day I got a chance to tour the Kerridge model home by Miller & Smith, an award winning builder in the Washington DC area. It has been so long since I’d toured a model home that I forgot how “kid in a candy store” exciting it could be! Just a first look at this beautiful home was all it took to bring back the wow feeling!
You know, when we were looking for homes in the area back in 2010 we started our home search with an M & S model and even came this close to buying another model of theirs. I know a couple of friends who have lived in M & S homes and are so happy with them that when they moved up they stayed with the same builder.
In keeping with the stellar interior decorating style of the M & S model homes this one too was impeccably styled. But more than the decor what impressed me was the features starting with the spacious porch. Heads up: My pics were all shot after it got dark, not the optimal time for great blog shots but that’s the only time my friends and I could make it over there.
A transitional foyer greets you in with a peek into the dining room.
The living room is tucked away to the right yet open to the hallway and the rest of the house.
Further down the hallway is the office….Swooning over those built ins, which by the way have Gold wallpaper on the back (yes, I did inspect to make sure it was not paint). π
Left of the office is the piece de resistance; the open floor plan kitchen, breakfast room, and family room. As you know I’m not a big fan of white kitchens but this one…………….that island! I was sold in a minute.
The other side of the kitchen………
My friends checking out the GE Monogram stove. π
And the family room complete with coffered ceilings.
Now that you have had a chance to savor every bit of it let’s move on to every mom’s dream………….a perfect mudroom and a storage closet next to it, all right there next to the garage. They call it the “Costco closet”. Mmm…who wouldn’t want one?
Almost forgot about the dining room also off the kitchen….That chandelier!!!!!!!!!!!!!! β₯ β₯ β₯
The flooring in the entire house had a weathered finish to it, a very warm gray, an upgrade option offered. Up the stairs is a fun retreat area, which was styled as a kids’ play room/study area.
The master bedroom is a bit toned down, not the expansive hall like space we’ve been used to in late 2000’s, which I thought was a great idea.
I’ve always felt that the whole separate sitting area in the master is unused space that could be utilized in other ways. In this case the extra space comes in the form of a very beautiful covered porch off the master. Nice…..right?
For folks who like to have a sitting area in the master there is a great space by the windows with views of the Bull Run mountains behind.
My favorite room though has to be the Blue and Red girls room………Picture perfect!
On the opposite wall is a desk cum wall of shelves………..so pretty and functional!
The boy’s room next to it is normal size and shares a Jack and Jill bath with the girls room.
A fourth bedroom and an upstairs laundry round off the upstairs.
Heading on to the basement, we are treated with an uber cool sports lounge, a newer version of the man cave don’t you think?
The bar area…..
And the back view of the home. You can see the covered porch off the family room and master in there.
Loads of windows, above average ceiling heights on all floors (has to be at least 10ft in the main level), and well thought out storage spaces make it a beautiful home from every angle! And a very functional one at that!
The only sore spot and that too is totally nit picking is the separate garages, you know the support in the middle separating the garages. That’s what we have now in our home and are not big fans of the separate doors. To be fair, I did not check with them to see if a single garage door was an option they offered. Other than that this M & S Kerridge model (base price of $669k for ~4,000 – 5,000+ sq ft) has everything you’d want in a home……B are you listening?
Disclosure: I was compensated for my time and effort in reviewing the model home; as always the opinions are 100% mine.
