Snow Globe Ornament

Have you heard of the saying, “There is always a right way and a wrong way of doing things”? Today I’m gonna show you how it is done. 🙂 Sometimes you do have to do things the wrong way first to figure out the right path. This Santa Snow Globe ornament is no different.

I had it all planned in my head; first a little bit of snow aka. glitter (did I say glitter? 😉 ) followed by the trees and finally Santa. All went as planned albeit a little bit tricky until I hung it on the tree and ended up moving things around. Soon Mr. Santa was sun bathing in the snow singing carols!

Oops that’s not what I wanted. Plan B! Empty the container out and start afresh.

To do this right you’d need;

Clear ornament – I was using an old one from last year. This year though Michaels has clear ornaments that are halves that snap together. Guarantee that those will make your life easier. In this case let’s just be old school and have some fun.

Bottle Brush Trees

Miniature decor – Choose the ones that will fit through the ornament opening

White Glitter

Tweezers – Oh, this is so important. If you have a long one even better.

And not shown in this pic is the most important piece; a small piece of cork/wood and a glue gun (super glue could work too).

So why do you need the small piece of cork and the glue? ‘Coz my miniature Santa was well miniature. He was so short that the snow was up to his beard the first time around.

Method

 

• Hot glue the small piece of cork to your figurine in order to make it taller. This will also save you some frustration when you are trying to insert it into the globe.

• Now comes the “you need to work really fast” phase. While keeping the clear ornament ready in one hand grab the figurine firmly with the tweezers.
• Ask a friend to dab a small amount of hot glue/ super glue to the bottom of the cork piece.
• With the precision of surgeon maneuver the figurine to the right place inside the ornament. Granted not easy as it sounds, in fact very very tricky but doable.
• Once you have the Santa or main figurine in position add the snow/ glitter (pics from the first try that went wrong, so no Santa).

• Again using the tweezers insert the bottle brush trees inside. You could use a pencil to position them inside.

• Finish off with some more snow/ glitter.

Looks cute on the tree but I tell ya a pain to photograph.
