Thanks so much Sam. We haven’t really done anything much on the kitchen except for painting, adding capiz pendants over the island, and adding bar stools. It is your usual builder one. We are planning on installing a glass tile backsplash. So I’m waiting on that to post the pics. 🙂 Would love to see pics of your home too.

I follow your blog ( as religiously as time permits). I loved the paisley canvas art you have put up in your dining room!
Taking inspiration form you, I chanced upon something which I would love to make at home. It is the http://www.pier1.com/Embroidered-Tulips-Wall-Art/2540197,default,pd.html .
I have the embroidered piece. It is already adorning one of the wall’s in my home. I havent dared to rip the entire thing open because I can see that there is a layer of batting underneath it to give it more support.
But now I want to recycle it into something similar like the embriodered canvas tulips.
My question(s) about this would be, I am not sure what kind of panels to do this on. Should I go with canvas pads and frame them or go with stretched canvas and hang it directly?
Any suggestions, tips, advice is more than welcome.

Aww.. that is really sweet of you Manisha. Without seeing how thick your embroidered piece is I would say stretched canvas as it is easier to work with. How do you plan on attaching it to the canvas? Can you send me a pic of the embroidery (to gauge the size and thickness) to [email protected]?

I was planning to modge podge it to the surface of canvas. But I am not entirely convinced about it because it has sequins on it and all the embroidery. May be an insane amount of modge podge should work. I haven’t gotten around to taking a picture but the dimensions are as follows 2 ft X 5 ft. Thickness around 3 mm (including the lining and the back cover). Hope this helps!

If the embroidered piece is thick and has batting they I think you are better off with fabric glue/ hot glue or even staples (stapling it directly to the canvas frame. Mod podging a thick piece might not work also might dull the finish of the threads. If the piece was made in India you also run the risk of the colors bleeding with Mod Podge. Mod Podge works best with thin fabrics. You could do this in 2 diff ways, one use a slightly smaller canvas than the piece and wrapping the fabric around it using the above methods or use a larger canvas than needed and glue the piece so the canvas (painted in a complimenting color) is the background to the embroidered piece. Then you could use decorative beading/trim/or ribbon (you’ll find them in all styles at JoAnns) to cover the edges, you know the glued edge on the canvas might create stark contrast. Again all this is without seeing any pics.

Its the Hand Embroidered piece from Maya home. Its the exact same one I have except that I have in two different colors (peacock blue and brown).
I think you can hot glue/fabric glue to a slightly larger canvas that is painted (base coat so that the canvas works like a mat) in your fav color. Then use trim/beading around the edges to make the transition from tapestry to canvas less stark. Let me know what you decide to do and how it turns out. Good Luck!
