The fiddle I’m talking about it is in fact a Dee. Meet Ms. Dee, our new fiddle leaf fig.
After trolling our local IKEAs online for days we went to the College Park one in MD so that I could finally pick up my fig. On a side note, all the decorating advice online suggests that IKEA is the place were you get the cheapest fiddle leaf fig ($12.99). And there she was sitting on rack all sad and lonely (the only one left even though online it said I would most likely find it it there) so happy to see me. Without a word I grabbed my lil beaut and placed her in my cart.
By the time B got around to check on it he heard a few other shoppers pointing to the plant and trying to look for the same thing. Seriously if I had been a minute late I would have been in for some serious disappointment. The hope is that one day it will grow as tall as these awesome twosome I saw at the National Zoo.
And then I could move it to the left side of the couch in my living room to balance off the side table. You know something like this.
Or even this. I’m psyched just thinking about it.
Won’t that be so cool? Do you have a large plant in your home? Any tips to keep Ms.Dee alive?
Update: See how my fiddle leaf fig tree is doing now.

I found our fiddle leaf figs at Lowes for $10! I was so excited π both were about your size, and now they are huge. Bother of mine did well on the front porch, and in the living room. I pulled one out to get rained on and forgot to bring him in and his leaves got burned, so be careful with that. I don’t water them a lot, just when the soil is dry. But lots of people do it differently, so you’ll have to see what your plant likes. If you check out my latest blog post, you’ll see how big ours got in a year.

Wow $10 is too good. It looks like the growing bud on mine just dried on me. Hope it is just adjusting to the light diff in my home vs. the store. Glad to hear that yours are doing great.

Fiddy, my $12.99 Ikea find, has bitten the dust. I’m going to be asking you for tips! I want to try again—I love these plants!

Aww…that is sad. I’ve kinda told hubby that I’m not gonna get another if this one doesn’t survive. I have such a tough luck with plants that die on me. Can’t seem to get them right even a 2nd or 3rd time. π

It is in the family of ficus trees. It does not like to be moved around or drafts. Make sure your heater or air vent is not blowing on it. If you find a place in your home that it seems to be doing well, let it stay there. And DO NOT over water.
