Wow, the how to page is really attractive ! It is much better than to just have textual links. I shall take a cue from here and see if I can try something of a visual nature too.

I like the personal touch that you have brought to your header… However feel there is too much of grey… especially with the sides being grey too !

Thank you. Glad you liked it. I had a similar feeling about the grey. These days grey is slowly becoming one of my fav colors. πŸ™‚ So I guess didn’t give much thought about it. Backgrounds is where I don’t like WordPress. For blogger there are umpteen options out there, very good ones. I’m using a plugin for the background (which I found after weeks of searching). 95% of the options in that plugin are grey. Do you have any suggestions for WordPress backgrounds? I would love to you a custom one but don’t like that tiled effect.

    Hi Vidya,

Here’s something I used to do with my earlier blogger theme. The background as you know is nothing but a link to a URL where the gif or jpeg is present. I found our the URL of my background in the HTML code and replaced it with my own URL where I have my BG stored.

Am assuming wordpress gives you access to the actual HTML code. If you can identify the link to your background URL, you can merely replace it with a URL where you have your custom BG stored.

You can probably search for the string “background” (There may be many that would be found) and see if you can get that BG link. Am no HTML expert, but I guess this should enable you to play with BGs. Let me know if this helps. And make sure you save the HTML file before you make any change.

    Cheers,
    Somu.

This is the actual code from my blogger template and the URL is what I change to change the BG. It’s a long shot. But if there is no interface to change, can be a boon. Luckily, my current theme allows for changes through the user friendly interface.

      Somu,

I can easily change the background into any custom file that I upload in wordpress. They have a very user friendly interface too. My issue is I want a geometric pattern for the background. How do I get it to look continuous not tiled?

Oh that … Make the background gif big enough to cover the entire page and enable no scrolling. Right now if I scroll the page, the BG moves along with the scroll… With no scroll enabled, it will remain static and because it is big enough to cover your screen, it would not be tiled either.

    Hi Vidya,

You have a super cool website!!! I was surprised and excited when I chanced upon ‘whatsurhomestory’ coz finally there is a decor style that I could totally relate to πŸ™‚ Coming to the ‘how to’ Q, I have a medium sized black ‘meen chatti’ which is quite useless as a cooking vessel because it spews smoke the minute I heat it on the stove. So, I was thinking of converting it into a planter. Q1. Have you used a drill on any indian earthen ware? Q2. Also, I noticed that you use hot glue on a DIY project. Whats its advantage over a super glue and does it work on all surfaces? Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

Thanks so much Ammu. The Meen chatti will work great as a planter. I too have plans of converting my old one into a planter. You don’t really have to drill a hole in it if you plant succulents or cacti aka, plants that do not need much watering. After you plant them water sparingly and only when the soil is really dry to touch. Let me know how it goes.

The hot glue is not exactly a permanent bond like the super glue. Still it is really easy to work with and holds well (good enough for household stuff and craft projects). By that I mean you don’t run the risk of gluing your fingers together but you do get burned a little bit with the hot glue (if you forget about it and touch it while it is hot). It is also cost effective. Plus it is instant gratification as it dries in mins.

Thanks Vidya. The succulents are a great idea. I will let you know once the meen chatti is ready.

        cheers,

Love this outdoor space with a beautiful red and blue outdoor decor with a flamingo pillow, metal tray side table, and loads of green plants

Finally the long overdue post, our new screened in porch reveal. This space has undoubtedly become our favorite room in the house now. To tell you the truth, I was against the idea of ripping apart our good size deck and replacing it with a screened in porch but B insisted that this was the…
